Well, here in California, our state senate has passed a bill that would require the Board of Education to integrate into the curriculum (K-12), on an age-appropriate basis, recognition of the historical accomplishments of gays and lesbians. This includes modifying textbooks to include the sexual orientation of the people being discussed. To my thinking, this is nuts. The accomplishments of G&Ls are already being taught if they were significant enough to make the history books in the first place. Why do we need to tell little kids about the sexual orientation of these people? They are having enough trouble learning history itself, without this. It might also be nice to spend some time on reading/writing/arithmetic, but that's too "old-school" (literally). I don't think this bill will pass -- it still has to get through the Assembly and be signed by Arnold. I hope I'm right about that. But in California, you never know!

Maybe I'm old fashioned (a possibility) but I like to watch a movie and let the writer, director, and actors do the work. If I have to make up the end, or twist my brain into a pretzel in order for it to make sense, they should be paying me! I don't feel happy when, after investing two hours, the credits start to roll, and my husband and I look at each other and say HUH? Thanks for the heads up. I won't be renting STAY.
